June
In June, we welcomed the Summer Solstice, celebrated National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, recognized National Indigenous History Month across Turtle Island, and celebrated Pride Month. Although the month is drawing to a close, we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge these important occasions and the opportunity they provide to celebrate diversity, strengthen relationships, and recognize the histories, cultures, identities, and leadership that enrich our communities.
In particular, we recognize and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, and ongoing leadership and contributions of Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqey, and Passamaquoddy Peoples and Nations. Meaningful conversations about food security must also include Indigenous food systems, food sovereignty, and the relationships that have sustained communities on these lands for generations. As we eagerly await more details on Canada's National Food Security Strategy, announced on June 11, we'll be thinking about how these perspectives are reflected in the work ahead.
This month also brought exciting milestones at Food For All NB - from holding our very first Annual General Meeting as an independent organization to continuing collaboration around school food, wrapping up our CFM in Action Campaign in celebration of 15 years of Community Food Mentors, and connecting with provincial food security partners from across New Brunswick.
With summer and vacation season now upon us, we're looking forward to making space for deep reflection, renewal, and some behind-the-scenes organizing as we prepare for the busy months ahead. We hope you, too, find opportunities to slow down, rest, and reconnect with family, community, and the abundance this season brings. From farmers' markets and roadside stands to gardens, berry patches, and shared meals, summer reminds us of the joy of fresh, local food and the people who grow, fish, harvest, prepare, and share it.
Our summer communications may look a little different from month to month, but we look forward to sharing highlights, celebrations, and opportunities to stay connected - and look forward to reconnecting more fully this fall. |
